problem removing a sound file

Hi

I thought I had a nice idea, so I added a image in my slide, edited
the custom animation, and under effect options I selected my wav file
(via other sounds... and finding it on my HD). Now I'm done, and I
didn't want the wav anymore. So I went back to the object, custom
animations, effect options, and set the wav file back to [No Sound].
The sound doesn't play anymore. Problem is my presentation is still 6
MB, 5.5 of which are the sound file that was there. So Obviously the
soundfile is still stored somewhere within the presentation. Anyone
know how to completely remove it?

Nemesis,

What version of powerpoint are you using?

I've just tried it on ppt 97.
It seems ok to me.

You added the sound on the "custom animation" menu - yes?
Have you changed it back to "no sound" ?
Have you got something called "fast saves" turned OFF (like it should be?)
(Tools > Options)

FYI - under "Tools", "Options", on the "General" TAB, only sound files that
are less than the setting you have (should be 100 kb) are actually imbedded
in your presentation, so it can't be the sound file (especially if you have
"Allow fast saves" turned off and resaved the file). Do you have any
graphics that you copied and pasted onto a slide? How many slides do you
have?

The presentation is 18 slides, with a few graphics. But the
presentation wasn't so big before I put the audi in. Of course I added
several slides afterwards. And yes, it is set to 100 kB. Hmm, maybe
it's the images after all then.

If Fast Saves is turned on , just use 'Save As' to save with the same name -
this has the same effect on a one-time basis, but still leaves fast saves as
your default option.

Did you "copy" and "Paste" your images in? If so, try selecting each image
(one at a time), press CTRL-X to cut it off the slide, click the "Edit"
menu, select "Paste Special", click the "JPG" format and click OK. Repeat
for your images, do a "File", "Save as" when done and check out the size.
If that doesn't work and the "Fast Saves" options don't work, you can try
creating a new presentation with the same background template as your and
use the "Insert", "Slides from files" to see if that helps.

yeehaa. That last suggestion did it. Cut the whole thing down from 5.5
megs to 600 kB :). Tx
