Problem regarding XP vs/2000

J

John Olav

On my old computer the HD died and I bought a new. I still wanted to use my
w2000 on this, but my startup disk is gone somewhere. My machine simply
couldn't read from the CD/ROM. So I borrowed a XP Pro CD and tried to boot
the machine from this, it worked. My hope was to uninstall XP and download
startup-files to the floppy and then install my 2000. But it's impossible to
get rid of the XP which has, of course, halted on the product key input,
which I don't have and don't want to have. How to get rid of XP now...and
hopefully install win 2000???

Open your BIOS and set the CD Drive as the first bootable device.
Insert your Windows 2000 CD in the CD Drive, reboot your PC,
then follow the instructions to delete all partitions, then create a
new partition, then format the new partition NTFS and install
Windows 2000.

If you cannot boot from your CD Drive, then see the following.

Why go through such a convoluted process? Why not simply boot from the
Win2K installation CD? You'll be offered the opportunity to delete,
create, and format partitions as part of the installation process. (You
may need to re-arrange the order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to
boot from the CD.)

Again, simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
