XP vs 2000 pro

A lap top with win 2000 pro; a winnt file got corrupted and I couldn't open
the OS; I installed XP home edition next to it; I have now two OS; W 2000 and
its files and programs takes 15 gig of space but I have no access to it and I
don't know how to get rid of it without cleaning everything; incidently, with
XP the lap top is much cooler; with 2000 pro I had to have a small fan to
cool it down.

You're probably better off removing the drive, backing it up to another
system so that you lose no data, then do a clean reinstall of either W2K or
XP Home on the system, finally restoring your data.

Both OS's share the Program Files and Documents and Settings folder, and
there's no easy way to figure out which was used by W2K and what is needed
for XP. And for XP, you're going to have to reinstall all the apps anyway,
so you aren't that far behind by doing a clean install.

Thanks for answering; as I am half illiterate in the matter, I think I was
not clear. I can use the Thinkpad using XP but I cannot boot with the
previous OS, 2000 pro; it looks like they are on separate partitions but I
really don't know what it means. Always in awe in front of these things...
