Problem Installing Win Xp

I have problems installing my Windows Xp.
When I start the installation it works normal but
after the first restart I get the WIN Xp logo and then the
display turns black with a blinking line(-).
I have tried upgrading from Win Me but the same happens.
And I took a Compatability test and everything was
compatable.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

What kind of machine is this? We saw this a lot initially on machines that
had an older BIOS or out of date video card drivers that would not upgrade.
