problem installing usb webcam

have a Logitech Quickcam Messenger camera and i'm having a lot of
problems installing it.
I have windows Xp Pro (SP1 installed) with 4 usb connectors that are
working ok. I have tried to download the latest version of everything
that is related to my camera (usb drivers, bios drivers, camera latest
drivers from logitech.com, lastest version of directX, etc...). Still,

i'm unable to make the camera work.
The problem occours when after sw installation (drivers) I connect the
camera. At this moment, windows tells me that it's impossible to
install the hardware because there is something missing in the .inf
file that I have.
By the way it installs the audio part correctly.

Got any idea?

Thanks,
Bruno

Because you went to such lengths to mention everything, the fact that
you failed to mention the "PATCH for Windows XP SP1" makes me wander
if you downloaded that also. Although it doesn't seem to have anything
to do with your problem, but then....
Just to be sure, you do have QuickCam Software Version: 8.4.8 build
1034A
It would also help if we knew what that "something" was windows said
was missing from the INF file.
When you say the audio part is installed correctly, you mean that the
built in microphone in the camera works?

Hi,
no, I haven't installed the patch por XP SP1, actually I did not see it
anywhere.
Is it on Logitech site?

As far as the driver version, it is 8.4.7.1032 (so it says in hardware
properties)

Finally the correct message (it's in Italian, so I translate) is
something like 'Cannot finf the correct section in the INF file'

Thanks a lot,
Bruno

BTW,
I've tried also with version 8.4.8 build 1034A with identical results.

Bruno,
This concerns the audio part of the cam (I have the Fusion model).
I had problems with the OS mixer board always checking the mute box where
"Microphone".
It occured randomly, and I never figured out why...
To resolve this I went into the Device Manager and bypassed the mixer.
(when placing a call, and there is no answer, and you know there is, the
mute box has been checked... very frustrating)

Also, my installation CD was bad. Had to go on line to download the installer.

Hope this helps.
