Problem installing CDROM drive

I used to run a machine with two HDDs on my primary IDE bus and a CD-RW drive
and DVD drive on the secondary. Recently I took out my DVD drive and added a
new HDD as the master and moved the CD-RW to slave. After the change when I
started up XP it detected the two devices and when it tried to install the
drivers it said there was an error in the CDROM installer and in the Hardrive
installer. When I restarted in Windows ME (Dual boot) it detected both and
worked fine. I partitioned and formatted my HDD and when I restarted in XP I
could access the drive although I still got errors in the installer. And I
still cant access my CDROM using XP although it works fine on ME. Can anybody
help me out with this problem? Do I have to reinstall XP?

I would at first check what the BIOS says. Also make sure that jumpers
on the devices are set correctly. You could also swicth the controller
cables for both ports to make sure that the cable is ok.

The BIOS says its fine. I can boot from a CD as well. The CDROM also works
fine on Windows ME. Its just XP thats giving me the problem.
