CDROM Problems in XP

K

KGregory

If anyone can help me out on this, I'd really appreciate it.

HP Pavilion A710E

AMD Athlon XP3000+ 2.17 GHz

512 MBs Mem

XP Home Edition ver.2002 W/SP2

Combination CDRW/DVD Player (HL-DT-RW/DVD GCC 4481B) Does not show up in "My
Computer" and shows "Windows Successfully loaded the device drivers but
can't
find the device" In Control Panel\System\ Hardware\ Device Manager\ CD-DVD
Drives.

What I've tried thus far:

Exchanged Physical Device with 3 known good CDR Drives with correct jumper
settings on relacements.

Same symtoms

Thinking at this point that the controller had gone bad, tried setting
jumper to "slave" and installed it on first IDE Channel as slave to the HDD
after making sure HDD was jumpered as master and not cable select then
configured as such in the BIOS.

Same symtoms

Thinking at this point that I was losing it, I reset the jumpers as master
and set HDD as slave, configured as such in BIOS.

Same symtoms.

Just for kicks n giggles, Set HDD on Second IDE (Where CDROM was originally)
configured in BIOS and set jumpers back to master

Machine booted fine with HDD on same channel as CDROM was when it wouldn't
work to begin with.
At this point, nothing is making sense.....at least not to me. Hopefully one
of you folks can see the forest for the trees cause I sure can't.

Suggestions? Please respond to the group.

TIA

KGregory

Go to Start>Run type: regedit click Ok Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
click on and look in rt pane for Upper and Lower Filters. Delete both or
either one if there. Restart.
