Problem finding missing files.

C

Cliff Wild

I have been having to deal with "You chose to end the nonresponsive program
XXXX" on to many occasions daily with different applications. I try to see
what data the error report contains so I "click here".

I see this:

C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf977.dir00\Ad-Aware.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf977.dir00\appcompat.txt

I search in all TEMP folders and in none can I fine any of these referenced
files.

At one point I was able to locate appcompat.txt and saved a copy but now
these files are gone.

On a regular basis I am discovering difficulties I suspect are due to an
attempt to deal with that IE 7 debacle. Now I am wondering how long this war
one bad software will go one.

Does anyone have a clue about how to either find or create these files if
this is needed? I have tried to Dos but have also had no luck.

I am wondering if I am misunderstanding anything here as I don't understand
the file format. It looks like to me that "WERf977.dir000\" is a folder that
holds the text file appcompat.txt. I have always "copied" and never typed.
I also do not understand the abbreviation ~1 after the Local Settings hidden
folder.

Can anyone tell me what I am missing here?

Thanks.

Hi Cliff,
appcompat.txt is the Log Error file for that App;ication and if you
submit this to MS by saying Yes for the Reporting of this Error.
If you want more Details about this erro you can open this Text in a
Notepad by doing so:
Open a Run Command and type in : notepad C:\DOCUME~1\ADMIN~1
here\LOCALLS~1\Temp\WER7b4e.droo\appcompat.txt click [OK] to open
the Log file in a notepad.

Try to scan for Viruses, you looks like having the Sheriff at home,
so get the Dogs out to park and get the Sheriff out by scaning with
another Anti-spyware like Spybot and disable the Runing process for
Ad-Aware.exe, also uninstall Adaware SE then when all clean download
it and install it beside Spybot on your system.
Disable the entries for Ad-aware from the Start Up programs by typing
in the Run command:
msconfig click [OK] and on the System configuration click on Start
up Tab and uncheck the entries there and Reboot and perform the scan.
Download a new version of Adaware and spybot from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
HTH.

Hi nass and thanks for the reply. One problem I am having is with
accessing the updates. The application hangs and refers to these files that
are not there. I can not open them with note pad as I can not find them.
They are either missing or gone. I have tried enditall, ending Zone Alarm,
shutting down AVG, but no help. I ran AV SW and Pest Patrol. I tried
removing Ad-Aware and installing again but now I am 256 days behind on the
data base instead of 7. I checked configuration against other systems that
connect.

I get this same error with other applications that hang for no apparent
reason:

C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf977.dir00\Ad-Aware.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf977.dir00\appcompat.txt

Still unable to locate the referenced log files.

Still no solution.

1= Well Cliff, then Try to run Disk clean up and Delete your Temp files then
run the update and see if that will help.

2= If still no joy then do the following:
Downlpoad this tools:
The AuoRun:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/autoruns.mspx
then the delinv:
http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm
Run the delinv but don't delete just locate the file location if it appeared
in the scan.

3= If all fail run the checkdsk by opening the Run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let run, you may need your XP CD handy.
Perform each step (1,2,3) one at a time and reboot then start the Updates.

Well even giving up on adaware you need to remove all the traces from your
computer, so deliv comes handy just pin point the path and tick the box in
fornt of the files/folders for adaware and click delete and you are done
nothing left for adaware on your system.
Then may be after some updates thing come back in tune together and you can
try reinstalling ad-aware.
But be sure your computer is clean by runing online scan from another
vendors to get a second opinion about the health of your computer.
