Problem Epson Stylus Color 600

N

Nathan Gutman

Ran out of color ink but have not replaced the color cartridge because I
printed mostly black.
Then ran out of black ink.
Haven't used the printer for a couple of months.
Inserted a new black cartridge only.
Ran a bunch of cleaning cycles but the printer does even print the test
pattern.
Question can the printer function with the black cartridge only or I have to
buy and install the color too even is I print mostly black.
What do I do to revive it?
Thanks,

This printer will not print at all if the colour cartridge is reported as
empty. This is designed to protect the printhead from drying out.
If you can run a cleaning cycle then the colour cartridge is not reported as
empty but may be low in ink.
When you say it will not print, does it attempt to or does it give an error
indication?
If it is an error indication then this is probably because the colour cartridge
is empty.
If it tries to print but there is no black output then the printhead may be
clogged. In this case e-mail Arthur Entlich at
e-printerhelp (@) mvps (.) org removing the spaces and brackets
and request his Epson printer head cleaning manual. He will not spam or charge
you, be patient he is a busy man.

Epson printers in general do not function without all the cartridges
installed. The heads otherwise dry out with ink in them making a mess
of clogged nozzles.

I have a free manual that gives instructions on how to clean the heads
and save printers such as yours.
