Printer Troubles in IE

R

Roger Fink

At the moment I have no ability to print from IE. Hitting Print Preview
brings up a blank gray box, and hitting Print brings up nothing at all. I
can print from other Windows-based programs such as Word or
Excel, and I can also print off of Mozilla with
no problem.

Interesting - I just this moment realized I can't print out this message in
OE either, even after saving it as a draft, closing the program, and
reopening it. The printing option is grayed out on the menu and missing from
the toolbar. On an archived message I can click the print command but
nothing happens.

I tried the printing troubleshooter, but nothing seemed applicable. The one
one suggestion I considered was to reinstall the print drivers, but that
also seems like a long shot since in every other environment but OE and IE,
the
printer works fine.

Recently there have been a couple of major maintenance events on my
computer. I switched from NAV to AVG, and prior to that I also had to
reinstall IE6 because I had somehow lost the Privacy pane on the Internet
Options box. Perhaps one of these events was the culprit.

WIN98SE and IE6, all up to date except for KB891711.

Story gets a little worse actually. I can't get WMP7 to work right either.
Quick Time Alternative works fine.

Hi Jan,

Maybe I should put you on permanent retainer.

I confess I have a bad habit of sometimes asking a question in these
newsgroups and then plowing ahead before anyone has had a chance to respond,
and that's what happened with this one. In this case enough was going wrong
that the problem seemed more systemic than point-by-point and I did manage
to right things by doing a system restore in Windows with a Fix-It restore
utility. With Windows sometimes a Howitzer is better than a telescopic
sight, IMO. I had to go back quite far - a day and a half - before
everything seemed to work right (at least so far), so this also meant
reinstalling AVG, since that was a post-restore installation. But things
seem to be what passes for computing normalcy around here now. So I'm sorry
to have made you hit the KB, et al, for nothing, and I'll try to improve my
posting habits.

You're very welcome! And I'm glad to hear you were able to resolve your
problem.

If you put me on retainer.... I may have to charge for OT. ;o))

Thank you for posting back and letting us know what worked for you, and for
the benefit of other readers who might have a similar problem. :)
