printer spooler freezes when new jobs are introduced during current printing

while my printer is printing a document all works fine if I wait to send
another document until after the first document is finished. If I send the
spooler a second document before the first one has finished printing the
spooler locks up and I have to shut down the computer to release the
spooler. the second document is available and starts to print whent the
computer restarts but I do not want it to lock up or have to wait for it to
first finish printing
 
Do you have the latest xp printer drivers for the printer installed
chk the mfg web site.
