printer&scanner does't work

I had windows 2000, switched to windows xp and now they
don't work. printer won't test print. Some one told me I
need a spliter to connect them together and it will work.
Can some one help me on this? I hope i don't need another
printer. Thank you.
 
I'm presuming here that you piggy back the printer to the scanner and the
scanner is connected to the parallel (LPT) port....

No that won't work in XP, XP will not support this.

One of them needs to be connected to a USB port.
