Printer Queue Messages Do Not Delete after Printing

I have had to reinstall a printer driver (HP 2200d - PCL6) after a small
printing problem. The new driver installed OK and printing apparently works.
However I now find that print jobs remain in the queue marked 'Printed'
after the job has completed. If left in the queue they will print again if
the PC is re-booted, and again, and again...

They delete manually without a hitch. Since I've never had the problem
before I'm perplexed as to how to proceed.

I tried installing a different printer using an alternate (PCL5e) driver but
with the same effect.

I tried the suggestion in KB 172288 but this made no difference and didn't
really apply as I have administrator status on the PC.

Can anyone suggest an alternative solution or approach to diagnosing a
solution.

I seem to have answered my own question...

The solution appears to be to disable bi-directional printer support.

Just in case anyone else comes along seeking help with the same or similar
issue.

Check off Enable bidirectional Support may solve this
problem.

Path:
right click on your HP2200d printer -> Properties ->
on the port tab, if the "Enable bidirectional Support"
option has been checked on. You can try check it off.
