Alan,

All of my print drivers behave the same including WinFax,
LaserWriter 16/600, HP OfficeJet R80xi, EPSON Stylus
Photo 785EPX, Acrobat PDF Writer (5.0), Acrobat Distiller
(5.0). If I go to start, printers and Faxes, double
click on the printer, then pull down menu printer,
properties, I get "Function addrss 0x77c011c7 caused a
protection fault.(exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all
property page(s) may not be displayed." for every printer
as listed above.

Thanks for the help!

This an exception in the explorer process. This is usually caused when the
driver UI or plugin module is freeing memory it does not own or attempting
to allocate memory it does not own. This can cause the desktop to
"disappear" or flash, then it will restart. What is the printer model and
where did you get the driver? Also a driver version.

thanks

What is the size and date of the printui.dll file? This should be in
windows\system32.

Is any Lantastic software installed on the system?

Alan Morris\(MSFT\)

this came from another user
======
I posted multiple messages to this group concerning printers
disappearing in Windows XP. I have solved my issue, and am posting my
solution, though it won't apply to most (though this may affect many
users outside of the United States).

This XP machine was part of a LAN that included a DOS machine. To talk
to the DOS machine, I installed a licensed copy of Lantastic 8.01 (XP
compatible revision). The DOS machine had come with Lantastic. The
computers talked OK (with some minor adjustments).

The Lantastic software, however, replaced XP's printui.dll. It didn't
erase it, or move it, it replaced it. So, ever time I followed the
generic "missing printer" checklist, I would find printui and move on.
The Lantastic folks published an article regarding this:

http://www.spartacom.com/ask.nsf/87...51f4b58c70366ab407256dd7006bca9f?OpenDocument

Basically, you restore the original printui.dll file, and also copy it
to Lantastic source directory to prevent the software from reasserting
itself in the future. Reboot, and presto chango, the printers return
and work normally.

Hope this helps someone.

Jeff
