Printer problems after reinstall

I recently had to reinstall XP but didn't know that I needed to disconnect my
printer before doing so. Now I cannot reinstall the printer. Do I need to
reinstall XP over again? The printer is a HP PSC 1410.

Hi,

No, you shouldn't haveto reinstall WinXP. What happens when you try to
install the printer? Is it currently listed in the printers folder?

I am not familiar with the HP PSC 1410, but my wife has a HP PSC 2210
all-in-one.

After I reinstalled her Windows XP operating system, the printer did not
install right. The install procedure for the HP PSC 2210 is fairly
involved. I imagine that the install procedure is similar for the HP PSC
1410. You need drivers for each of the four functions, plus the software.

You have to uninstall not only the drivers, but the software as well,
disconnect the printer from the computer, and restart the computer. When
you reconnect the printer, the computers plug n play will offer to install
it for you, but you must follow the HP procedure which you can download from
the HP site. It's a pain, but we got the HP PSC 2210 working again.
