Printer Problem, HELP!!!!!

My name is Gaile. I have a Deskjet 840C printer and I am running a XP Home eddition. I can't print from the internet, it just says error, but I can save to documents and print. When I try to uninstall it says the program is not there. I go to printers and it dose not show that I have a printer at all. When I hit add printer it dose nothing. I try and run the cd to re-install and it won't do that. I had no problems before. Now I do.
Can anybody help me?

I have errased all hpz and hpf files and started the spool. Now when I try to download a new driver from HP it tells me that it was installed but no printer image comes up on control panel and now it tells me that C:Windows\System32\spool\w32x86\31hpztbu04.exe short cut can not be loaded because of this erro.

by any chance do you run Zonealarm? If so my wife's computer kept coming up
with a error message that said all of her drivers didn't load so she
couldn't print. Deleted the 5.1xx of Zonealarm and went back to their 4.5
version and all is well. Just a thought.

I do not run fire alarm, but I have been running Panda. But it seemed to run then. So I am still looking for anwers. I tried to download a dirver but it says that it could not load the short cut as there are no spools.
