Printer "Out Of Paper" Message

I have an XP Pro computer hooked up to a network with one
printer attached locally and it connected to a network
printer through the Ethernet.

When I print to either of the printers the printer pauses
and gives a message "Out of Paper User Intevention
Necessary" then to print each page the button needs to be
hit. This happens on both the local and network printer.

The Local Printer is a Brother HL1440.
The Network Printer is a Hewlett Packard 2200.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Since it happens both locally and networked, is the Print Spooler
service set to Automatic startup, and is started? Printing with Manual
Feed set? Printing to a non-existent tray? Bi-directional
communication set in the printer properties?
