printer not compatible

I have a E-machines T1842 with a Lexmark Z-25 printer and cannot print. I get
a message that says printer not compatible with Windows-XP. Do I need to get
a new printer? I have tried all available solutions to no avail. It also
states that it has something to do with by ports.
