Printer delay

Hey guys,

have been having a problem with my printer/s for a while now and am yet to
find the cause...

Basically, I bought a HP multifunction printer and it all worked fine for a
short time, after which the problems started. It took ages to print
items...you could press print and it would come up in the print box in the
tray saying that it is spooling, but would take a while to print. If i came
back to the computer in 10-15 minutes the page would have printed. Another
way i found to get the job to print was to reset the computer. After windows
logged back in, the job would print straight away.

I went out and bought a Brother laser printer tonight, as I was sure it was
the HP printer that was the problem (have had a few HP's and tey have all
had problems). The same thing seems to be happening again. I set the printer
up properly, and printed a page from windows fine, but when i went to print
another page, nothing happened. Returned to the printer about 20 minutes
later and the job had been priter. The job was also displayed in the print
box in the tray icon, so it had been sent to the printer.

What I'm thinking it might be, is one of 2 things:

- the USB hub I am running the printer through, a belkin 7 port hub...am
going to test the hub out tomorrow and see if this changes anything

- printer spooler...have read things about the spooler not working properly
and causing print jobs to b very slow.

By the way, this is all running on Windows XP with SP2 and all updates.

Any ideas?

I think the only way to check the USB hub would be to bypass it and plug
your printer directly into the computer usb port and test it there.

Is the hub powered or unpowered? Do you get the printer to print straight
away if you connect it to a USB port on the motherboard rather than the hub?
