I'm trying to re-install my printer because somehow it got deleted from my
printers and for some reason I cannot get my print spooler to start up.
Going through my control panel (Admin. tools -> Service -> Print Spooler ->
Start), I try to tell it to start manually but when I do that I get "Error
1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."

How do I get the print spooler to start up, because I cannot do anything
involving printing. Please Advise.

Go to Start/Control Panel/Printers and Faxes and delete the printer first.
Reboot your PC and XP's plug&play feature should come up with a message
that new hardware was found and ask you if you want to install it. Answer
Yes and let it go. It may ask you to insert the installation disk with the
drivers.

There's no printer in the printer folder currently, it deleted it somehow and
now i'm trying to install it again but says the print spooler hasn't been
started. When I try to start it manually it gives me the 1068 error.

I have had the same problem. I did what Byte suggested but I get a message
cannot add printer because prints spooler is not workingl Where do I go from
here

Hi

Have you checked to make sure that the Print Spooler Service is running?
Type

services.msc

from Start>Run, then scroll down the list of Services. If in the 'Status'
column for the Print Spooler Service you don't see 'Started' right click
that Service and select 'Start'.

Thanks for your prompt reply. The print spooler is not running and when I
click on start I get a 1068 error message that says that the dependency
service failed to start. For there I have no idea where to go. There is
also apparantly some problem with my plug and play, since it does not detect
the printer . At any rate I cannot add a printer because of the print
spooler hangup. rmoon

Have you tried:
Double-clicking on Print Spooler in Administrative-Services. Make sure
startup type is automatic. Then restart your computer. It should start then.
