Print spooler service IS running

N

I can no longer print to a network printer from my laptop. When I try to look
at the properties of this printer, I get the message "The print spooler
service is not running". When I go to Services, the print spooler service IS
running and is set to automatic. The only dependency it has is the Remote
Procedure Call service which is also running and set to automatic.

Earlier today, I applied Service Pack 3 to MS SQL Server 2005 on this PC.
Could that have done something to my print spooler or RPC?

Regardless of whether SQL Server is the problem, how can I fix this?

OS: Windows XP Pro, SP3

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The problem appears to be on the PC with the network printer attached to
it... or to whatever is being used as the Print Server.
