Print spooler service is not running

can't print -

ok..I have 1 xp wireless laptop that i'm trying to print from...printing to
a printer connected to another xp machine. I have been able to print as
recent as a few days ago. both machines have been rebooted, printer is
turned on.

printer services is running, and set to automatic on both machines.

i can no longer print from laptop, nor can i get to properties when i
right-click on printer icon on laptop. I'm afraid to remove it for fear i
will not be able to readd it.
I can print to printer from local machine.

Print Services is running but is the Spooler?

From the command prompt, type

Net start spooler
