Print Spooler and WinXP Media Center Edition

I have a laptop that came with XP MCE installed on it. Early on I tried to
connect it to a networked printer and had issues. I tried manually stopping
and starting and found that I could not get it to change, and so tried some
repairing steps specific for the print spooler to no avail.

I just recently tried to install a USB connected printer and found the same
problem. Again, the installer would not complete as it could not manipulate
the Print Spooler service.

Is this a known issue with MCE? I have a copy of Vista Business with my
Action Pack and am seriously concidering changing over to that on a clean
install.

Unfortunately, the situation is a little different.

The specific error I get is "[installer app] cannot start/stop the Print
Spool service and cannot complete". If I go into the Services and try to
manually Start/Stop the service I get a 1069 error, which refers to a problem
with Logon.

This does not make sense, and I have tried a number of the solutions
provided in the Knowledgebase. That is the first place I go before posting
in the newsgroups.

Thank you for the time, but the 1069 is the key I think.

I am thinking you may have a dependency problem with some other service,
perhaps one avoided in a normal MCE setup. (disabled by intent)

There is a script you can create to look at your specific dependencys for
that machine. If you think it worth the effort, create and run this file.

List Dependent Services for All Services:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/scripts/os/services/ossvvb05.mspx

(create a c:/scripts folder, and run 'cscript <filename.vbs>', then open
notepad with 'c:/scripts/service_dependencies.csv' )

Sounds like a plan. Will try this ASAP and get back to you on it.

Better to share than hog such info.
