After recent security updates installed on 5/9/07, lost my printing
capabilities. Tried to reinstall printer but unable to. Got error message
"Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running."

Tried restarting the print spooler service - did not resolve problem.
Attempted resolutions suggested in previous postings for this problem - did
not resolve problem.
Tried restoring system back to 5/4/07 system restore point. Did not resolve
problem.
Contacted MS, they suggested:
reinstalling spoolsv.exe from system CD - tried this without resolution.
contacting computer vendor - done; they were unable to assist; vendor
referred me back to MS web site to download their spoolsv.exe which I was
unable to locate.

Am (was) using Epson C80 printer in Windows XP Pro SP 2
Help!!?

Hi Ernie
I have exactly the same problem and have tried the same remedies, except
that my printer is a Brother.
I am still looking for a resolution. I strongly suspect there is a problem
with XP.
I wish that Microsoft could be more helpful!
Have you a solution yet?

Hi Trev,
Unfortunately, no resolution and no further suggestions. Am so upset. I
have a strong suspicion that the only resolution will be to reinstall
windows. I also wish Microsoft could be more helpful (or at least "first, do
no harm"). Until then, I was sort of praying for a miracle. Next computer
will be a Mac!

If you find a fix, would appreciate your help and I will do likewise.

May I direct you to another section where I have been getting responses?
You might want to refer to it to see if you find your answer there. It is in
Discussions in Windows XP :
Windows XP Printing and Fax.
The thread begins under my name on 5/13/07 Print Spooler Service will not
run

I have to go to the library to print out the instructions for these since
unable to print from PC. I guess I will attempt this next:
