Presario crashing and crashing

My husband has a Compaq Presario laptop that came preloaded with WinXP home
edition. Several times now it has crashed and I have to use the recovery CD
to wipe the drive and reinstall everything back to the way it was when he
bought it. It will be working just fine and then all of sudden whe he goes
to boot it up, it will stop at the Compaq logo screen before logging on and
just sit there. The mouse will move but nothing else will happen. Safe mode
does the same thing. Is it corrupted operating system files? Would
installing XP Professional make a difference? I heard it was supposed to be
more stable. Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

Is there a warranty on the machine still active? I would suggest looking
in to potential hardware issues not software related......Does the
machine beep or anything?
As I mentioned if you have tech support call them as your issue can be
related to a slew of things.....That's my best guess anyway......

Agree that software is not the problem.
What you heard about the "stability" of XP Pro would not apply to your
situation, if in fact it applies, strictly speaking, to any situation.

There is no difference in stability between XP Home and Pro. Pro is a
superset of Home with some added features for networking in domains,
file encryption, and a few other things. Again there is not difference
in the core of the programs so going to Pro would not do anything. The
laptop has a hardware problem. Contact Compaq.

I had the same problem with my presario. It is the computer. There is a flaw
in it. Send it back to the manufacturer for i was never able to correct it
on my own. I spent weeks researching the problem and found that alot of
other people had the same problems.
