Pre-crash MSI files

First: I use an HP Pavilion with XP-home preinstalled. (Not the best move,
but water under the bridge now.)
Because of an XP2 crash, I had to reinstall XP Home from the recovery disks.
All other data on the HD appears to be intact. The big problem now is that
since the registry has been rewritten, no software installed prior to the
crash and XP reinstall will run from either shortcuts or double-clicking the
*.exe file.
The question is: Now that I have to reinstall everything that was installed
prior to the crash (on 1/11/05), would it be "safe" to manually delete the
*.msi files associated with all of the previous installations? There are 193
of them listed and they take up an immense amount of space.
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (from KB#290301) does not seem to
recognize any files prior to that date. And the programs are all missing from
Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
I have already encountered problems trying to reinstall Norton Internet
Security 2004 because of a previous version of Norton Antivirus that is an
automatic installation from the HP Recovery Disks. That took 2-1/2 days to
resolve, but it appears to be functioning now.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Yes, you can delete the files, and start reinstalling the software you would
like.
