I quit being able to send e-mail from my Comcast account in Microsoft
Outlook 2002 on Wednesday (2 days ago.) I can still receive. The
explanation in the error message has changed from Wednesday to today,
and is different from the ones previously described by other members of
this group. It was an is an 0X800CCC78 message. However, initially,
the explanation was, "530: authorization required." Now the
explanation is, "The connection to the server was interupted." Also,
initially, only my Comcast account was affected, but I could still send
from my STPWebhosting account. Now, I can't send from either account
from Outlook. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For the "authorization required" error, turn on authorization to your
outgoing server (on the "Outgoing server" tab for the account). For the
"connection interrupted" problem, turn off any virus scanning of your
incoming and outgoing mail.

I get the message "protocol error... code 0x800CCC78" at one location where I
connect to BTBroadband, however, at the other location, also BTBroadband,
everything works fine and I can send messages. Unfortunately now I get
duplicated messages sent to me. This is after I'd contacted BT who
instructed me to change from Outlook to Outlook Express!

I have outlook 2002 and NIS 2005 and get the 0x800CCC92 error. I have tried
disabling NIS entirely, uninstalling and reinstalling NIS all with no effect.
I also tried just disabling those bits of NIS that I think are "locking the
maildrop" but I suspect I am not disabling all the right bits as I still
cannot receive my email. Sometimes, depending on what I've done, the system
will just hang and send no error messages but remain connected. I am getting
pretty depressed by the whole event - any other ideas I can try?

Milly - by "email scanning" did you mean only NIS2005 -> NAV -> STatus ->
Email scanning. I have also turned off the Norton Antispam - should NASpam
be turned off too?

Thanks for any help.

I cannot get my email network password to quit popping up, my email acct is
with a pop3, when I go to OUTLOOK-it keeps asking for the network password-to
send/receive, or when I first log on or even now, it keeps popping up-
the email accts were verified and working, now what? this is with a new
dell computer-
I have gone to the sight where it asks to remember password and clicked
that, but still does not help
is it the Norton security software that was installed with the new dell
computer?
any advice?

What domain of Yahoo is your account in? If it is yahoo.com, you
cannot use Outlook to access it unless you pay Yahoo for POP access to
the account.

Hi, Its Edan again. The problem has no solution so far. I also have a Dell
with Norton Anti-Virus. Could that possibly be the reason?

I'm using McAfee. I disabled it and am experiencing the same error message. I
upgraded from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2003 and have been unable to retrieve
my email by setting up the POP account. I touched nothing after the upgrade
before experiencing the problem. I can still send emails, but can't receive.
I checked with my ISP/server and their is not problem there. I can retrieve
my messages through their weblink using the same password that I can't use in
Outlook 2003.

Exact same problem here. But did no upgrades, just traveled out of town,
stopped working (recieving, sending is okay). Turned off Virus protection and
Firewalls, and I still can't DL e-mails. I've also checked the Microsoft web
page for this issue, only found one vauge reference which was of no use.

Any one have a clue?

Hi-I have the same issue. I'm using windows live care anti-virus and
windows defender. I don't think it's an anti-virus issue. There was
Microsoft update of an SP3 for networks, and noted error codes for sign in on
POP3, but I couldn't figure how to install as it would not update on my
system. I was working on my reistry, did anyone else attempt registry work
and note this issue afterwards?

I'm having a similar problem on my new Toshiba and I haven't even set up any
antivirus. My message reads
"Task "Juno - Receiving' reported error (0x80040900): 'The server name you
entered can not be found on the network (it might be down temporarily).
Please verify that you are online and that the server name is correct.'

This is so frustrating as the Microsoft help instructions tell you
specifically how to view Juno webmail but if it doesn't work, the help
section provides no options.

If anybody can help I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks, Linda

It sounds like you might have a wrong setting

If I have the right "Juno" then the two server names should look like

pop.juno.com

and

smtp.juno.com

tools>accounts>double click the account name and check the property sheet to
see what is there.

Some Antivirus will change these settings if you choose to have email
scanning turned on, we generally suggest you don;t use email scanning
because it does nothing to help and often causes confusion and problems.

The name mail.juno.com may also work for both of these but if you still have
problems look for the names on the Juno website or call their tech support.
