Usually the one that says to use the inbound credentials.

Can you ping your smtp server? Open a command line window and enter

ping yoursmtpserver

where "yoursmtpserver" is the fully-qualified domain name of your SMTP
server, like "smtp.myisp.net"

You can't access an email address as an SMTP server. I think you're
confused.
