POP3 account won't remember password

I have added an internet email account to my Outlook 2000 but I cannot get
it to remember my password for the email account. Even though I check the
remember password box I get prompted to enter the password for the account
when d/l messages. I have tried deleting and recreating the account but it
still does not work. Outlook is installed on a Windows XP machine.
