poor quality in preview pane

I have been using a USB streaming cable to download video from my Sony
Handycam (TRV460), but the picture quality is really crummy in the preview
pane. I have tried different video capture setting, to no avail. Is it the
USB cable that's to blame? Is it just that it looks terrible in the preview
pane but will look fine when I eventually transfer it to DVD? Help!!

========================
Try transferring your video from
the camera to your computer via
the IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK).

The quality of the video should
improve.

Thank you! I am going to do that. It's awkward being new to stuff and not
knowing what things I really need.
