Polk self-powered speaker

I have (old) Polk desk top speakers on a Dimension 4100. The volume output is
very low. These speakers were fine on an HP Pavilion. Will the Dimension
drive self powered speakers or do I need to replace?

It's not a Windows issue, it's purely a hardware requirement. If these
Polk speakers require a lot of power to drive then the on board audio
will be insufficient. You have the choice of an after market sound card
or powered speakers.
