low volume

I cannot turn the volume up to a good hearable level on
my new Dell. All volume controls are at a maximum but
still can barely hear. I am still using POLK speakers
from my old HP PC. Do I have to use the speakers from
Dell or should mine work?

It depends. There's a few simple ways to see if it's just the speakers.
(1) Get another pair from afriend or around the house and try them (2) Get a
simple pair of headphones and see if they offer louder sound. If either of
those two work then you be know that it is just the speakers. I have an
old pair of speakers that came with a Compaq PC that had a volume control
knob on the monitor, and not the speakers. These can not be used with other
PC's or devices because the volume can't be turned up on the speakers.
