Pointer Freeze/System Hang

Pointer freezes and system hangs randomly in any programme - no set pattern.
Control/alt/delete does not bring up Task Manager. Only solution is to turn
off my computer and start again, which is very frustrating and time
consuming. Can anyone help - please!!!

I've been having the exact same problem ever since I tried upgrading IE to 7.
I've even tried System Restore several times, to dates further back in time.
I know my system was perfectly fine up until Wednesday night (11/22) before
the IE download. Even though I restored to 11/1 I still get random freezes,
with no time or program pattern. This is becoming more and more frustrating
each hangup, where the only way to restart is I have to hold the power button
for 5 seconds and turn back on. Immediate help would be appreciated.

I recently am experiencing same problem. Using laptop touchpad, I uninstalled
drivers and using Microsoft default mose drivrs; no change. Keyboard is also
unresponsive. I do have IE7 as well. A workaround is to hibernate the
computer using the 'extra' dedicated keyboard buttons, for hibernate.

Could you please write down your hardware and OS specs if you are having
this problem, so that maybe we could narrow are problem down if we have
something in common.

Here are my specs:
Intel e6600 core 2 duo
Intel D975Xbx2 (with integrated sigmatel audio and some lan card)
Sony DVD-rw DW-G120A ATA
NVIDIA geforce 7900 GS (driver = 97.46)
a Lynksis wireless adapter
2048 dual channel ram

*i'm running the 32 bit vista home premium. I have IE7 (default from vista)
