Tom
I am trying to use the Remote Desktop feature to access my personal
office.
Situation:
Office has 2 computers 1. Windows XP Pro and 2. Windows XP Home. My
office has SBC DSL that is connected through a 2Wire Cable Modem then
plugged into the Linksys BEFVP41 VPN router that is mandatory for my
billing software.
I am trying to connect from home using my Windows XP Pro laptop also
on SBC DSL.
I tried to call Linksys and they had me open up their router port of
3389. I then figured out that the 2Wire Cable Modem had a firewall
and also needed to check the box in the configuration utility to "let
others connect to this computer".
I set my office XP Pro machine to allow users to connect to it and I
still am having trouble. I cannot connect to it at all.
I am not sure exactly which IP address to connect to using the XP
Remote Desktop application.
I have a number of IP addresses
63.xxx.xx.xx I think is the regular IP Address
172.16.xx.xx I think is the Cable Modem
128.68.1.1 I think is the Linksys VPN Router
I believe using the RD utility I would try to connect to the regular
IP address but then how does it know which machine I am trying to
connect to from there?
Can anyone offer any assistance?
ALSO and this may be totally separate but using the Linksys VPN router
can I make a Remote (possible VPN) connection to the XP Home Office
computer from my home/hotel/other location (laptop using XP Pro)or
does my office computer need to be XP Pro as well?
