RDP Behind Linksys Router

I connect to my work computer from home both XP Pro. My home computer is
behind a 4 port linksys router using a DSL connection. I can get an active
VPN connection but when I try to connect using RDP I get the message "The
specified computer could not be found. Verify you have typed the correct
computer name or IP address, and then try connecting again." When I disable
my local network connection on my home computer and log the internet using a
dial up service, I am able to VPN and RDP to my work computer successfully.
I can't figure out why I can't connect using RDP when my local network at
home is enabled. Please help. I have tried reading numerous postings here
but it's seems that no one has the same problem.

Are you utilizing the router's external IP address and have you configured
the router so it forwards the proper port (3389) requests to the proper
machine that is behind tyhe router?

Ignore.
You are trying to connect to your work PC from behind your home router.. not
the other way.
Sorry.

Does it work if you turn on your computers software firewall and directly
connect to the Internet?
(do not go through your linksys router.)
