RDP thru VPN

I have a strange problem. I need to VPN into a remote network, and once
connected, RDP to a server on that network. The VPN works fine. But when I
try to RDP to the server, it starts to connect (seemingly) - I can see the
RDP client window frame (no remote desktop) - but after about 30 seconds I
get this error message:

The connection to the remote computer was broken. This may have been caused
by a network error. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.

I CAN ping this server - just not RPD to it.

The really weird thing is that for a different VPN to a different remote
network, I CAN RDP to a server on that network.

So, case 1: VPN1 = connect to remote network #1 then RDP to remote server
1 - can't RDP, can ping
case 2: VPN2 = connect to remote network #2 then RDP to remote server 2 -
can RDP, can ping

Also, a different computer here in the office CAN do case 1, with same
credentials.

I downloaded the latest RD client from MS. No difference.

My machine is windows XP Pro. The machine that works here in the office is
als Windows XP pro.

I have all the latest XP updates.

I have googled the web and newsgroups, but couldn't find anything.

Any ideas where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks,
Ripley

I would check the server logs for clues...

Good suggestion. I will pass it along to the clients, to see if they will
investigate this on their end.

Thanks.
