Mmmm... decisions, decisions...

I believe you would need to upgrade to the GeForce FX 5600 or 5800 to see any difference in performance from your existing Ti4200.
The fx cards are really designed to show their true colours in Direct X 9, so this is when you'll see big jumps in performance.
I suppose by uping to a 128MB card you already be boosting your system substantially. So maybe 128MB FX 5600 would be a good idea.
Chaintech are pretty good.
Try www.idealcomputing.co.uk. They got a Chaintech 128MB FX 5600 for £90 + VAT.

tthanks for your reply

yer i think they sound good well expalined there. looking around ive found a good fx5200 128ddr at around 60 quid.

i think its reasonable price its not too much please have a look for me the website is:::

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=444&MODEL=MS-8907

or if this dont work it is called the MSi 5200Fx TD 128DDRram

i think its alrite a bit better than ti 4200 and a lot quieter too!!!

thanks let me know what your thoughts r

FX5200

The FX5200 is about the equivalent of a GeForce 4MX 440.. a bit better though. I think you would be disappointed if you went for that... If you looking to upgrade then you have to go for a FX5600 or FX5800 (this one's a bit expensive though).

Personally yes, I think you would see a difference, but not much.

I have the FX5200 in two of my systems and am very pleased, but I'm no games player, I bought the 5200's on price ... they are half the price of a 5600 ;) ...

however, if you can get a Gainward 5200 then you'll in effect have a 5600 ... why, 'cos those nice engineers at Gainward know how to put a card together. The gainward 5200 outstripped all other 5200's AND some 5600's. :D

fx the best!

i got the fx 5200 in the end . i got the latest version of pc format and the card i got the msi version they rated it as being good for the price
i didnt want to splash out too much money u see!!!

the difference between the fx 5200 and the ti4200 is marginal but when it comes to gameplay the fx5200 is MARVELLOUS!!

its so clear, crisp and brite and according to pc format this card can math the ti4800 which is definetly out of my price range!!!!

so a big thumbs up to the fx generation LONG MAY U LIVE!!!

THANKS

i replaced that card with my old TnT2 32mb, the performance difference was astounding. all i need now is a processor upgrade to keep my machine up to date ;)

I generally prefer ATI, but it seems older games prefer Nvidia cards, so I splashed out on a second hand Albatron fx5200 Ultra for my WIN 98 box and it's very, very good, considering it's specs.

Using it with XP2400 & 512MB Twinmoss PC2700.
