playing games on winxp

I'm having trouble playing snes9xw - emulator - it was working before but
seems unable to start up anymore. The same goes for any game where there
needs to be a change in resolution to a lower res. It says there is a program
error and it automatically reboots and then says there was a fatal system
error. It needs to truncate (??) files during startup and creates an error
report.

Can someone help me to fix the problem?
