[PL] PL 2006 Ware Ballot

I have voted to remove Powerdesk because of the greyed out top
taskbar icons which have a mouseover to say the features are
available with the paid version. I

PowerDesk 5 doesn't have this (at least not that I see). That's the
version I use, and the one I voted on. Why should we be voting on the
(apparently) worst version? Why not vote on a relatively non-offensive
version?[/QUOTE]

Quite. I use Ontrack Powedesk version 5 also which is why I voted to
put Powerdesk in the PL list. I'm still happy that that nagless
version 5 be placed in the PL list.

Unfortunately Ontrack sold several products onwards and just retained
it's core data recovery business. The original Powerdesk developers
and long time Ontrack beta testers of many years such as myself were
left out in the cold as Powerdest changed ownership a couple more times
when the owners were "aquired"

I only tried Powerdesk 6 when this vote came about and regard the
new version as nagware.

I believe that distribution of the excellent version 5 will be
problematic because distribution EULA has always been _only_ permitted
via the Ontrack site, rights were then sold onwards to V-Communications
VCOM, others, and most recently Avanquest software who appear to have all
retained _sole_ distribution rights.

Thanks for that. I'll continue to recommend version 5 to those who want a
good file manager. But I guess pointing them to a download link is out of
the question. It'll just have to be passed around via craftier ways. ;)

[PL] PL 2006 Ware Ballot
March 17 - March 24, 2006

"da rules" prohibit Nagware.
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2006/2006PL-Procedures.php
"If it is learned that the program's ware type is ineligible or it
becomes ineligible the program is removed from the Pricelessware List.."

Exceptions can be made via the Ware Ballot.
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2006/2006PL-Procedures.php
"In special cases programs may be placed on a Ware Ballot to determine
if the program's ware description is acceptable to newsgroup
participants. The Ware ballot is used only to determine elegibility.. A
two-thirds majority in favor of acceptance is required for a program to
be eligible for the Pricelessware List."

Two programs should have been on a PL2006 ware ballot - they weren't.
IOW - they haven't had their day in court. This ballot remedies that
oversight.

No Idea about PowerDesk.
