Ping the printer

I've been trying to do a printing job from the Cmd screen, to no avail.
I've tried using the "print" command, the redirection operator with the
"echo" command, the "copy" to printer command, etc., unsuccesfully. However,
no problem with printing from Windows GUI. Device manager says LPT1 is OK
(as indeed it is).

What can it be?

TIA,

First of all, you've neglected to tell us how, specifically, you're
connecting to this printer. To start with, your use of the "ping"
command in the subject line implies a network connection. Then you
mention LPT1, which is the parallel _port_.

Exactly how is the printer connected to the computer? If it's a
network connection, the status of LPT1 is irrelevant. If it's a
parallel connection, then your use of the "ping" command is both
irrelevant and misleading. Further, if it's a USB printer, as most
newer models are, than nothing you've mentioned applies at all.

Thank you for answering. You've put me on the right path.

The connection is USB. (I got the nonsense of my mentioning a parallel
port)..

In Device Manager I found the following entry:

[+] IEEE 1284,4 devices
-----HP Office JetG85 USB 4 compatible printers.

Now, I found that the entry is repeated twice. Maybe a double install? Could
this be the reason that the "print" command is not recognized?

Thank you for answering,
