Hi, I was about to do a format of my hardrive to get rid of all the
accumulated rubbish and i downloaded all my files onto DVD's, including
hundreds of photographs. When it came time to restore everything to the
system there was no problems, but, i opened the folder with the photo's in it
and in the detail setting it showed each photo, gave all the details, size,
date used etc, but when i tried to open it it told me there was nothing to
open. I put it in thumbnail setting and got a lot of thumbnails of nothing.
I went to the disk i had saved it on and tried to see if the photos were on
there and the same thing had happened. Everything else i had saved to disk
was perfectly ok, just my photo's don't work. Any ideas??? Please help, i
have lost 4 years of my grandkids life if i can't work this out!!! Thanks
in advance.

Right-click on a photo file, select "Properties",
under the "General" tab select "Open with",
select "Change", select "Windows Picture
and Fax Viewer", place a check next to
"Always use the selected program to open
this kind of file", then click Apply.

More help:

1. Open XP's "Help and Support Center".
2. In the Search box type: ASSOCIATION , and hit enter.
3. Click on "Change the program that opens a file".

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't work. That was the first thing i tried
and all i got was 'no preview available' for all my picture programmes except
Paintshop Pro which told me it was not a 'valid jpeg file'. Thanks anyway
