Thumbnail View for Photo Upload Dialog?

My C Drive was full so I moved all my photos to an external HD. No
problems except for one PITA. Whenever I upload a photo, the File
Upload dialog always opens with a list view which I must manually
change to a thumbnail view so I can see for sure which pix I'm
uploading. The folders themselves are correctly set to thumbnails.
I'm having no problems with folder views per se. It's the File Upload
box view that I'd like to change.

Is it possible to set thumbnails as the default File Upload view for
folders outside of My Pictures? How?

IrfanView has a Thumbnail view option, which also has a folder tree view.
Freeware.
