Photo Editing program

I have XP and have had a problem that a lot of people on here seem to have
had. Trying to edit from the Picture and Fax Viewer and getting MSPaint.
(Who could really edit with that program anyway? LOL)

New problem: I now have the correct program destination in the registry and
it worked . . . for about two weeks. Now, with the correct program in the
registry, MSPaint is opening again.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

And now . . . it is mysteriously working correctly again, without any
corrections.

Just in case this problem happens again, without correcting itself, please
help with any knowledge you may have.

Possibly the file that *accidentally* opened in Paint
was a .bmp file. The following link explains how
to change the default editor for a single file format.

Adding to John's expert advice:

For BMP files, alter the Edit verb's (default) command here:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Paint.Picture\shell\edit\command]

The "Edit" verb for a file-class overrides the SystemFileAssociations\.xxx "Edit" verb.

If the above key is unavailable, then alter the SystemFileAssociations.

Thanks for the advice! I will watch for that next time.

I actually was wondering if I might have messed things up a bit. I realized
that, on that day, I left-clicked a picture in windows explorer and picked
open with to edit it in a different editing program than I had designated as
my default program. Usually, I open the program, then open the picture from
that program, but I did things a bit different.

Could that cause a temporary bug?

Hmmm, I don't think you should be
seeing the "Open With" option with a
left click. I only get that with a right click.

And...even with a right click...unless you
tick "Always Use This Program"..nothing
should change permanently.

I thought we were discussing the "Edit"
button in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?
