windows picture and fax viewer

The edit button no longer works in my windows picture and fax viewer. It is
supposed to close the viewer & open paint but does not; it just closes. all
file associations are correct and I have checked that mspaint is the default
editor. If i right-click on the pic and choose edit, paint does open up like
it should. just the edit button on WPFV doesn't work. i suspect that
something is wrong in a registry key value but not sure. anybody have a fix
for this. By the way, WPFV is registered properly ( i have checked other
posts for how to do this) any help greatly appreciated.

Might register the registry

Start | Run <type in> shimgvw.dll <enter>
