performance sucks/keeps freezing

I have an emachine that has been very good. It is about a year old and has
512k memory. I've had TrendMicro Security (PC-cillin) about 6 months which
works pretty well. Lately after running my system a few minutes at a time,
it freezes up and must re-boot.

I try to load up the PC-cillin but it never finishes initializing, so I am
not protected. There is nothing in my startup group.

Wondering if this has anything to do with my registry. Do I need to reload
XP? or PC-cillin?
