When I get a PDF file link that needs to open in IExplorer IE opens but loads
a blank window with the little picture icon in the upper left corner of what
I presume is the PDF document display. I normally don't have any trouble
viewing PDFs. What's causing the problem in IE and how do I resolve it.

Not sure why you posted in an Outlook group. Try one for IE, with more info
(OS version/SP level, etc)?

I posted it here because I first experienced the problem trying to open an
Outlook attachment that was a hyperlink to a PDF on the internet...

OK - but if you open any other link in Outlook, does it work?
Can you open links w/PDFs directly in Explorer?

Ok, I did find an IE community out there and found out that this is a problem
created by the folks who embed the PDF link on their sites. It seems as
though they are not identifying the link as a PDF file type (even though it
looks like a PDF) so when one clicks on the link the computer can't make the
association to Acrobat reader. The solution... right click on the link and
do a Save As to your hard drive. Once on your drive the PDF extension is
recognized and the file opens OK. Go figure...

Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it.
