Hi. Can I replace a four port USB 2.0 card with a four port USB 2.0 and
2 port Firewire card? Or does my motherboard have to have a Firewire
connection to plug into eventho the PCI card comes with
software.........Running WinXP on a Dell 4300. .......Thanks. deango

On those peripheral cards, both the USB and Firewire functions are on
the board itself and not dependant on the Motherboard.

Hi,

Your motherboard doesn't have to have firewire support. The appropriate
driver files are likely in the included software if not supported natively.

Can't make out what the heck the above partial sentence means. Can MVPs
translate this for my reading pleasure?

Hi Jonny,

It was pretty clear, even though poorly written. The user wants to replace a
four port USB2 PCI card with another that has four USB2 ports in addition to
two firewire ports. He/she is curious as to whether the motherboard needs to
support the firewire connection directly. The answer would be no, it relies
on the PCI bus and drivers supplied by the card vendor.

Thanks Folks! Sorry the question was so obscure, if I had asked if I
could install a Firewire PCI card without 'motherboard' connections?
Anyway, most of you knew what I meant and I thank you all for taking the
time..........deango is guy (dingo dog, get it?)

Thanks, Rick. Am easily distracted by inaccurate, or partial, or
inappropriately worded statements that may or may not be critical for a
correct answer. This one was a doozy for me.
