PC unable to connect to internet

Hi all,i'm having problems connecting my Medion laptop to
Bt Openwolrd.I have been connecting via my phoneline to
BT Openworld with no problems for the last year. Now when
i try to connect i hear the dial tone,my modem dials the
number over the dial tone(strange) and no connection is
made and i'm asked to hang up and try again. However it
would appear that the line is not hung up when exiting
the dial-up program and starting again.I have to manually
remove the cable and replace it to get a new dialing
tone.I have ran all the diagnostic checks on my PC for
the modem and they all show that it is working
correctly,i also tried the troubleshooter again with no
luck.My phone line appears to be working correctly, i can
make and receive calls and when i dial my ISP number with
my home phone is connects.......Any help would be
appreciated,thanks

Just curious, does this come over the phone line??

Try setting up a new 'dial up' connection to call a second phone line in your home or your mobile phone

That way you can test to see if the modem is really working

If you phone is ringing, then you know that you have a connection issue with BT Openworld and can continue your error checking with their help desk

If it fails to 'call' your second number or mobiole then you have a modem or driver issue...continue error checking down that route.
