Lost Power, Now I Have No Dial Tone

hello! I have a Dell Inspirion 8600, i am currently using dial-up to
connect online (im old fashion i know!) few weeks ago during a
thunderstorm i lost power while my computer was connected online, since
then i havent been able to go online, system says "no dial tone" ive
purchased a external modem, thinking that would solve the problem and
it didnt, i ran a query on the modem ad it reads: AT#CLS+? "command
not supported" ....how do i fix this? and is that the reason why i have
no dial tone? please advise thanks!

If you have a phone you can connect to the line that goes to your computer,
see if you can get a dial tone on the phone.

It seems that you did not install the correct modem drivers for the new
external modem. AT#CLS+ seems to be used for additional features (faxing,
Modem on hold??) that the external modem does not support.

Have you checked with a standard home telephone to make sure that the phone
line, and cable, works?

Thank you all for the quick response, I have tested the line it works
fine, i have returned the modem, and downloaded a new pc card, that
doenst work either

Then it looks like the time to call a tech.
Evenif you hear the dial tone, it could become too weak for modems.
