PC Turns on By Itself

My PC has turned on twice by itself in the last two weeks.. I have
Windowsxp Service Pack 2.This happened to me in Dec. only then it was
making a horrid noise and I couldn't use it or shut it off at the
button, so I unplugged it and took it in to the shop and they said I
needed a new motherboard. Had a new motherboard put in and now like I
said it has turned on all by itself. I also only have dial-up 9 with
MSN. So I never leave it on. Any suggestions as to what could be
causing this would be great, before I need a new PC or another
Motherboard.

Thanks

Check the system BIOS - nothing at all to do with Windows or any operating
system, as it is loaded before the OS - for power options.. Such as
wake-on-LAN or automatic power-on, etc.

Also - make sure you have your equipment running through CLEAN power -
invest in a $35-$50 Universal Power Supply/Battery backup.

Look in your BIOS settings for Wake on Lan or Wake on Modem. Make sure they
are turned off.

Also check in BIOS to insure that the setting for turn on by PS/2
Mouse/Keyboard is off.

Keep in mind that on/off via powered button is software controlled. If
necessary to turn computer off - hold power button in for several seconds.
